2025 Breakthrough Campus Recruitment Ambassador

Breakthrough Central Texas (BTCTX) seeks enthusiastic, creative, and self-starter college students to help recruit over 130 summer teacher fellows (TFs) for 2024! These valuable members of the BTCTX family will engage in marketing, outreach, and recruitment of TF applicants at their home universities. Under the guidance of a full time BTCTX staff recruitment manager, they will be responsible for initiatives on campus like flyering, tabling, presenting, social media, and generating context-specific, creative strategies for getting more of their college peers to apply for the Summer Teaching Fellow position. Special emphasis will be placed on recruiting TF applicants from backgrounds underrepresented in the educator workforce. This is a fast-paced, nine week-long position – spring deadlines for teacher applicants are fast approaching and we want as many qualified candidates as we can find!

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Qualified applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Be passionate about Breakthrough and its mission
  • Be an active student (personal networks with student organizations and faculty) at a key BTCTX partner university 
  • Have worked as a TF and be in good standing with Breakthrough
  • Exhibit effective communication skills, a positive attitude, and creativity. Recruiters will be expected to execute initiatives suggested by Breakthrough, as well as their own 
  • Be able to work independently, record and report on their progress effectively, and consistently meet deadlines

HOURS, BENEFITS, AND COMPENSATION:

Campus Recruitment Ambassadors will be compensated with a stipend of $1000. The dates of employment are January 6 until  March 7, 2025 (with a required training on January 3rd) with the possibility of extension that includes additional compensation (ending dates may be flexible depending on application volume, recruitment efficacy, and availability. The expected time commitment is approximately 2 months. This position is remote, based at your university. 

  • Recruiter Stipend ($1000) 
  • Bonuses (additional $1 for each lead generated up to $500)
  • Non-monetary benefits (on-going support, professional development) 


Responsibilities

  • Tabling
    • Set up an information table at student centers/cafeterias during high-traffic times at least 1x/week
    • Set up an information table at key events on campus like job/activity fairs, if applicable 
    • Share your Breakthrough experience with potential candidates
    • Serve as a representative and ambassador of Breakthrough
    • Collect contact information of interested students, follow up with them via text/email/phone to encourage them to apply
  • Flyering
    • Post at least 50 Summer TF recruitment flyers around campus in high traffic areas
    • Check and replace bi-weekly or as needed
      • Student Activity Center, BMC, CMA, Starbucks, Einsteins
  • Presentations
    • Reaching out to key university professors/administrators for presenting to classes/groups
      • Reach out to at least 5 professors and coordinate times to present to relevant college classes. Preference given to classes/groups with higher proportions of backgrounds underrepresented in the educator workforce.
      • Reach out to at least 5 key administrators (staff at professional development centers, academic centers, research institutes, advising services, etc.) and coordinate presentations or other ways of recruitment with these administrators. 
      • Schedule and complete 5 presentations to relevant classes or centers
      • Collect contact information of interested students, follow up with them via text/email/phone to encourage them to apply
        • Social Work Class
    • Reaching out to student organizations
      • Reach out to at least 5 student organization on campus (fraternities/sororities, interest groups, etc.) to share information, with the potential of presenting 
      • Schedule and complete presentations to 3-5 student organizations 
      • Collect contact information of interested students, follow up with them via text/email/phone to encourage them to apply

  • Social Media
    • Share handles with BTCTX staff recruitment manager and create social media plan together
    • Post information on your outlets (including email listservs and class Facebook pages) at least 2x/week!
    • Have photos from the summer you were a Breakthrough teacher? Share those with your networks on social media and tag us! Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or LinkedIn

  • Communication with Breakthrough
    • Weekly 1:1 meetings or phone calls (30m) with BTCTX staff recruitment manager to discuss progress and plans for the previous/following weeks
    • Document weekly tasks and share documentation with BTCTX staff recruitment manager
    • Leveraging Additional Existing Networks and Contacts
      • Work closely with BTCTX staff recruitment manager to design a college-specific recruitment plan -- incorporate your own specific campus contacts and initiatives. What connections do you bring to the table?
